2024 GOSS FORUM: Promoting Academic Achievements
Commercialization and Cross-Border Collaboration


“GOSS FORUM 2024”, the first theme-based seminar organized by GOSS Institute of Research Management was successfully held in Hong Kong on January 17. The event was in collaboration with The Laboratory for AI-Powered Financial Technologies Limited (AIFT) and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). This closed-door meeting sets the stage for transformative discussions and fruitful collaborations for institutions from Mainland and Hong Kong. Dr. Serena Cai, CEO of both GOSS Institute of Research Management and GOSS Capital attended the seminar.

The seminar consisted of two sessions. The first session was held at the Laboratory for AI-Powered Financial Technologies Limited (AIFT), Hong Kong Science Park. The session shined a spotlight on the remarkable academic research findings and technological advancements brought forth by AIFT in the domains of AI, blockchain, and tokenization. The experts delved into the potential for transferring these groundbreaking discoveries to industry partners, particularly in cities like Kunshan, for successful commercialization. Licensing intellectual property, exploring AI applications in e-commerce and supply chain management, and establishing spin-off companies or technology transfer offices take center stage during the panel discussion.

Attendees included Professor Houmin Yan, Director of AIFT and Chair Professor of Management Sciences at the City University of Hong Kong, Mr. Daoxun Sun, Member of the Jiangsu Kunshan Committee and Dr. Ping Du, Researcher and Founding Chairman of the Big Data Research Institute, former Executive Deputy Director (Legal Person) of the National Information Center.

During the second session, the spotlight shifted to the impressive research capabilities and output transformation at PolyU. The panel engaged in thought-provoking discussions regarding collaboration opportunities in talent projects and science and technology innovation. The panelists explored the feasibility of establishing a modern, integrated model that seamlessly connects industry, academia, and research. Of particular interest was the establishment of a cross-border teaching and internship base in Kunshan, aimed at enhancing students' practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of real-world complexities.

Attendees included , Mr. Daoxun Sun, Member of the Jiangsu Kunshan Committee, Professor Cheng Dong, Vice President of PolyU, Professor Qingyan Chen, Dean of the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research, Mr. Kar-tat Wong, Director of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship at PolyU, and Mr. Edward Shen, Registrar at PolyU.

GOSS FORUM 2024 serves as a catalyst for bridging the gap between academia and industry by fostering the commercialization of academic achievements. It paves the way for cross-border collaborations, propelling innovation and economic growth. With esteemed experts, dynamic discussions, and visionary ideas, this closed-door seminar promises to shape the future of academic-commercial partnerships and drive transformative change in the global landscape.
